Exhibition Design : Jakarta Mods Mayday 2017

Main Stage

Many cultural elements inherent in everyday life, whether originating from inside and outside the country, either directly or indirectly affect community lifestyle. One of the elements related to culture and deeply ingrained in some communities, especially working class in Jakarta, Indonesia is the MOD.

Mod (originally modernist, sometimes capitalised) is a subculture that originated in London, England in the late 1950s and peaked in the early to mid 1960s. Significant elements of the mod subculture include: fashion (often tailor-made suits); pop music, including African American soul, Jamaican ska, British beat music and R&B; and Italian motor scooters, Vespa and Lambretta.

From the mid to late 1960s onwards, the mass media often used the term mod in a wider sense to describe anything that was believed to be popular, fashionable or modern.
Currently, MOD lifestyle is very global and can be found in almost all parts of the world, including Indonesia. To appreciate the working class from all walks of life, every year, the MODS, organized the event called MODS MAYDAY each dated May 1 simultaneously in the whole world.

On this occasion, we would like to participate by organizing MODS MAYDAY event as a form of appreciation for the working class in Jakarta in particular, in the name of JAKARTA MODS MAYDAY , and also become part of the world in commemorating the labour day through music and scooters.
